Brave Rail Staff Member Endures Severe Wounds Amid Multiple Stabbing Incident on High-Speed Train

A valiant train staff member who intervened to protect passengers during a multiple stabbing incident on a express train has sustained critical wounds, police stated on Sunday.

Details of the Frightening Event

Surveillance video reportedly shows the employee trying to halt the attacker as the train traveled between Peterborough and another station in the county. Witnesses recounted a terrifying 14-minute duration after the train left Peterborough, with bloodied victims running through compartments.

The individual, a 32-year-old British national from Peterborough, remains in custody for questioning. Authorities declared a significant event on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in central London.

Crisis Response and Consequences

The incident on Saturday night led to 11 people being treated in medical facilities after the train made an unscheduled stop at the station in Huntingdon. Several individuals have now been released from hospital.

A witness recorded the individual waving a big knife and being shot with a Taser as he faced police on the station. He was reportedly heard yelling, "End my life, end my life."

“This awful event has created broad consequences. We are thinking of the victims and their families – particularly the courageous employee of rail staff whose relatives are being assisted by trained officers,” stated a high-ranking law enforcement officer.

Labor Reaction and Calls for Measures

Rail associations were quick to praise employees and demand increased action. A union official said he would be “requesting immediate discussions with government, rail employers and law enforcement to ensure that we have the strongest available support, tools and effective protocols in place”.

Another association representative urged the rail company and government “to act quickly to review security, to support the affected workers, and to ensure nothing like this occurs again”.

Operator Commended for Quick Thinking

The operator who halted the train at Huntingdon was reported as being “very shaken” but “good”, and has been commended by association officials for doing “exactly the right thing”.

“The driver did not stop the service in the middle of two stations where it’s clearly difficult for the emergency services to reach, but he carried on traveling until he arrived to Huntingdon, where the response was almost already there,” explained a association official.

Further Information

Authorities said they got the initial emergency reports at 7:39 pm, and the service was compelled to make an unscheduled stop in Huntingdon at 7:50 pm.

An witness recounted initially wondering if the event was a holiday prank, but soon realized from individuals' faces that it was serious.

Police have confirmed there is nothing to indicate the incident was a terror-related attack and have requested the public to provide with any additional information.

Train services on the impacted route are expected to experience disruption until the following day, with passengers advised to postpone their journeys where feasible.

Individuals with information that could help the inquiry are encouraged to reach police by sending a message a designated number with a case code.
