Mikel Arteta Applauds ‘More Reliable’ Squad and Reveals Kai Havertz Injury Blow.

The Gunners' boss remains confident that his side can persist in handling with injury setbacks after confirming that star striker Kai Havertz is not ready for a few more weeks.

Extended Absence for German Star

Havertz has been out since the summer following knee surgery. Hoped to be available earlier in December, Arteta revealed the player faced a hurdle when advancing his training and failed to reach “the required stage.”

“We learned, and we were able to put together a group that is considerably steadier and has greater depth,” commented Arteta.

Tactical Decisions for Brentford Clash

This development presents a selection headache for the midweek fixture at the Emirates against Brentford. The manager needs to decide between persisting with Mikel Merino, who found the net playing out of position against Chelsea, or bringing back Viktor Gyökeres, who came back from a muscle injury in the latter stages. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus is in contention post-recovery.

Fitness Doubts Linger

Further fitness issues affect defender William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who both missed the weekend encounter. Therefore, recent arrivals Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are expected to start again in the heart of the defence for the Premier League front-runners.

Arteta believes the substantial investment on reinforcements in the last transfer window has left Arsenal in a far better place to navigate such absences.

Squad Depth Key to Title Challenge

When asked if more options was aiding their league challenge, his response was positive. “Indeed, since the current term has seen more issues in the attacking line, and now the situation with the backline,” he noted.

“We learned from the past that we must deploy players in alternative spots, and they must be capable to fulfil different roles if we aim to challenge at this level. And the example of Mikel is probably the prime illustration.”

Manager’s Sympathy for Suffering Star

Addressing the complication previously mentioned by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta offered additional context. “His recovery was progressing. He could not go to the next level and now it’s looking like we have unlocked that.”

Arteta expressed his keenness to have him back. “Everyone is eager to have him. Truly, it’s a player that, personally, I love so much for the qualities he offers to the team, but his mentality, his attitude. I observe his frustration while sidelined.”

“His fitness history is exceptional, he's usually fit, and I look forward to see him return around the team playing because I think it’s going to be a huge lift.”
