The Manager's Stance on Celtic

McKenna referred to the Glasgow giants as "a really big football club" but stressed he is "in the middle" of a "extensive rebuilding" with Ipswich Town.

The 39-year-old assumed control of Ipswich in recent years and led them to the English top flight with back-to-back promotions, but they managed only a handful of victories last campaign as they were demoted back to the second division and they presently occupy 12th in England's second tier.

"I have not had any of those conversations," the London-born ex- Irish youth international said when asked about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"This isn't a matter I have given any thought to, or where any portion of my concentration is currently.

"I have a unique position here at a remarkable club. And we're at a really important phase of the campaign. Anything outside of that hasn't touched my radar."

Background and Contractual Aspects

Reports indicate that the manager would be willing to talk to Celtic given his childhood support.

"During youth, we all have our affinities," he said when questioned about these. "I don't think everyone has to publicly and announce what they were, but naturally it's a really big football club."

The coach agreed to a new multi-year deal in last year and was asked about his reported £5m release clause.

"Throughout coaching agreements, there are things," he replied. "I'm unaware what my specific terms are and, were I informed, I wouldn't tell you anyway!

"I approach this role like I will remain Town's coach indefinitely. I know that's not invariably going to be the case, but I will consistently do my best as long as I remain in position."

The Welsh Coach's Situation

Bellamy represented Celtic on loan from the Magpies in the mid-2000s, but the ex- Wales striker is inclined to complete the ongoing World Cup qualification, a position that would practically eliminate the mid-forties from immediately taking the Celtic job.

The Welsh squad are currently third in their qualifying group behind group toppers Belgium and second-placed North Macedonia.

Wins over the minnows and North Macedonia in November would secure their place in the final qualifying round, but they are virtually guaranteed of reaching that stage, thanks to a successful Nations League performance, should they not end up their group runners-up.

Given his present position, Bellamy, whose agreement expires after Euro 2028, would not be available until following the play-offs at the minimum.
