The England manager Questions Home Fan Atmosphere Following Emphatic Win Over Wales.
The England head coach voiced his regret that the Three Lions team did not receive greater encouragement from the Wembley fans during their impressive friendly win against Wales on Thursday evening.
Tuchel was satisfied to see his squad maintain their winning momentum, with strikes from Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Saka inside the first 20 minutes deciding the game. However, he was not content with the energy at the iconic venue.
“We had limited training days to get ready against a drilled team and we excelled,” the coach stated. “It could have been five goals ahead at the break. We couldn’t score the additional goals. It was quiet. We didn’t get any energy from the stands. Our team gave their all to win.”
“How much more can you provide in 20 minutes? We prevented them get away. When you only hear just Wales fans for half an hour, it’s disappointing because the squad warranted greater backing today.”
“I maintain this statement. We cannot do more than being three goals up in a derby. I would have wished for a bit more backing in periods where it gets difficult.”
“After halftime, to support us, there was excessive support for Wales. It might have aided us to recharge, but that’s the way it went and so be it.”
Selection Choices Justified by Display
Apart from potentially starting a fight with fans, the manager also caused a stir by omitting Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden from his team selection. However the choice was validated by Morgan Rogers impressing again in the No 10 position and netting his maiden goal for his country.
“He is what he is,” Tuchel noted. “He is a No 10 and he is vying for his position.”
Bellamy Seeks Improvement from Defeat
The Wales manager expressed hope that his team, who face a strong Belgian side in a crucial qualifying match on Monday, improve after their poor performance in the opening period.
“This is why I scheduled this match,” the manager commented. “I wanted to assess our current level. What are our ambitions? Who do we want to be? This performance gives me motivation.”
Injury Concern for Watkins
Ollie Watkins was substituted at the break after clattering into a post and may miss out when England face Latvia in Riga in a qualifier on next week.
