The Streaming Platform is Developing a Far Cry TV Show from the Producers of Alien: Earth and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
The latest action-packed instalment that gamers experienced was Far Cry 6, which showcased Giancarlo Esposito as the villain, Antón, and was released on October 6, 2021. Throughout the franchise, it is famous for embracing chaos and mayhem with equal glee, all while telling engaging, politically driven stories. It’s no surprise that FX's new order for a Far Cry limited-run show brought on board two creators whose projects have represented all of those things.
Show Details
Based on Ubisoft's hit video game property, the short-run anthology series will be available on Hulu and will be created by FX Productions. The show will also mirror the video games' style by having a new setting and ensemble in each season.
Creative Minds
Rob Mac, creator of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Noah Hawley, the mind behind FX's Alien: Earth and Fargo, will serve as showrunners on the series through their production banners, More Better Productions for Mac, and 26 Keys for Hawley. They will be accompanied by Emilia Serrano for 26 Keys, Nick Frenkel for 3 Arts, Jackie Cohn for More Better Productions, John Campisi, Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill for Ubisoft Film & Television.
We’ve shared excellent relationships with Rob Mac and Noah Hawley for a combined six series and 32 seasons of television, and we couldn’t be more excited that they are joining forces for Far Cry,” commented Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment, in a news release. “I have no doubt that they will tell this story in a way that is original, engrossing, and wildly entertaining. We also want to thank our associates at Ubisoft for trusting us with this cherished property.”
Cast and Future Plans
Mac will also feature in the show, but currently, we have no details on what character that may be. Hawley's Alien: Earth was recently approved for a second instalment, with FX and Disney signing a new comprehensive agreement with the showrunner.
“Getting to work alongside Noah Hawley is a dream realized,” remarked Rob Mac. “Ubisoft has been exceptionally accommodating, placing faith in us with one of the most renowned video-game universes ever created. And throughout this process, my FX family constantly supports me with their steady confidence and support.”
“What I love about the Far Cry game franchise is that it’s an anthology series. Each game is a take of a concept, the same way every run of Fargo is a variation on a premise,” noted Hawley. “To develop a large-scale action show that can evolve from one instalment to the next, while always exploring the nature of people through this complex and unpredictable perspective, is a ultimate goal. I’m eager to collaborate with Rob and introduce our mutual irreverent, daring style to the audience.”
A time frame for when we can look forward to the new Far Cry show has not yet been revealed. The series will be available on Hulu in the United States and on Disney Plus internationally.
